Neighborhood Health Plan reviews?

My wife and I are looking to reduce our healthcare costs, and looking at changing insurance providers. We currently have Tufts for our family plan, which we’re happy with, but the rates are too high (1621.00 monthly premium, with a 2K deductible). We are now looking at switching, and today is the last day of open enrollment (why the state came up with this idea, is beyond me, and why we left it ’til the 11th hour is even more beyond me). One insurance provider we found through the MA Connector is Neighborhood Health Plan, with rates that are much cheaper (in the 1200.00 range with a 500.00 deductible, but also a few 35% co-insurance line items). Does anyone know anything about Neighborhood Health Plan? Any firsthand knowledge? There aren’t many online reviews of the company, and most of them don’t paint a great picture. Thanks.

  1. Lance – did you ever sign up for NHP? I’m in the same boat, although 1 year later. Their benefits look competitive with the top 3 (Tufts, HPHC, BCBS) on paper, but what is the reality? I only need it for 6 months and their price is a chunk lower that the others. If you signed on, did you like it (pros, cons, docs), etc. Tx.

  2. We actually ended up w HPHC. My wife did more research and spoke to people in the industry and the concensus was that you get what you pay for and that NHP didn’t live up to the standards of the others.
