It has always been perplexing to me that pediatricians have served the MassHealth children yet dentists avoid serving this indigent population within their generally more affluent communities. These parents have […]

A goal in my office this year was to reach 90% flu immunizations for all our persistent asthmatics. We are a persistent lot using the phone and email yet that last percent two was like climbing Mt Everest. One […]

Group pediatric practices are ahead of most other specialists and primary care docs . In my area we are open 9-8 M-TH, 9-5 Fri and 9-12 Sat and Sun. Solo practices are hurting as they compete with CVS Minute Clinics. Minnesota, where retail based clinics ( RBC’s) started, have very few solo practices. Years ago I talked [...]

Hi Martha,
I worry that they will charge or exclude paying talking about a child’s chronic disease on a check up .This is often the number problem to effect the child and family’s quality of life. Discussing asthma, ADHD, and learning disabilites on a well check up are an imperative. -

Hi Martha, I am enjoying school though I may change my major. A 3 gm reduction in sodium intake per day would reduce diastolic pressure by 2 total points in the population overall enough to significantly impact strokes and heart disease . Spoke with Carey Goldberg the other day. She asked me to post a [...]

This is a term my professor used today at the Harvard School of Public Health where I am working towards an MPH. Does anyone know if the processed food giant Arthur Daniels Midland and Cargill ( or at least supplying the additives) as well as Coke, McDonalds, Pepsico, etc ever been investigated for the increasing [...]

I caution extrapolating this to pediatrics. What is important is the tech who performs the test pediatric friendly as this can effect the quality of the ultrasound? In community hospitals radiologist are less experienced and can be less knowledgable about various disease processes to look for compared to pediatric radiologist in places such as…[Read more]

I find this very interesting. In our practices in Westwood/Mansfield we have started making efforts to reduce parents’ costs for acute non-urgent visits- the type that will be coming more and more out of their pockets as the Obama bill emphasizes prevention. We give and sell for no profit strep tests for parents to perform [...]
